SESC Limeira

Honorable Mention – National Architecture Competition

The project presents itself as a unified ensemble, taking advantage of the region’s topography and the scale of the surrounding neighborhood to establish a landmark in the landscape. The expected austerity of the large public facility is countered by the delicacy of its placement. A large green roof slab unites the elements that house the various planned activities, ensuring a cohesive reading of the building.

The plot, with the dimensions of a city block, demands that the architecture be recognized as a part of the city, establishing connections and incorporating elements such as streets and squares into its use. In this way, the building engages with the context, not only offering an alternative to overcome the elevation differences between the streets that define it, but also providing urban spaces for transition and permanence.

The “spread-out” volume, with openings that carve through it, enables spaces that make the most of natural ventilation and daylight, while also strengthening the integration between indoor and outdoor environments.

The program is essentially organized around the open sports and social square, located on the lower ground floor, from which a wide view of the architectural complex can be enjoyed. The space, a large platform for those simply passing through the site, also serves as a place for meetings and various spontaneous activities. The square connects directly to the foyer, from which access is provided to the theater and multi-purpose hall, the café, and a covered social area.

On the lower ground floor, physical and sports activities are located, establishing a closer relationship with the green area. On the upper ground floor, spaces for health and nutrition, as well as areas dedicated to children, are situated, alongside the restaurant, which is accessed through the lower ground floor, crossing through the main activities of the complex.

In the semi-subterranean floor, the covered parking area shares space with part of the physical and sports activities: multi-sports courts, multifunctional gym, and rooms for physical activities. This level also houses the support spaces for the theater, along with most of the technical areas, completing the extensive programmatic requirements of the project.
