Salim House
The project consists of the renovation, revitalization, and restoration of a historical mansion to become a guesthouse in the tourist city of Lençóis, Bahia. Likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, the mansion features eclectic ornamentation and is part of a protected architectural ensemble in the city.
In this context, the main listed building facing Rua Sete de Setembro houses the reception area, a shop for local crafts, and three suites. Additionally, there is a proposal to add a new building with a facade facing Beco do Azogue, designed as a contemporary element that complements the intended use of the guesthouse.
This new structure incorporates elements of Brazilian colonial architecture, such as the muxarabi closures, which relate to contemporary materials like concrete and glass. This volume contains two more suites on the upper floor and, on the ground floor, a public bistro featuring a dining area and an industrial kitchen, along with support and service spaces.
The project seeks to delicately and permeably integrate into this context, reflecting and recognizing the existing historical richness while allowing for and being characterized as contemporary architecture.
